It is run entirely by volunteers through the direction of a Governing Board.
Most of our members and participants reside in Fairfield County CT and
Westchester County NY. However, a fair number of singles from New York
City, Long Island, Rockland County, New Haven County and Hartford CT
area have heard of our activities and will participate. Our participant's ages
range from their 40's to their 60's. A rough breakdown of their background
is 80% are divorced, 15% are widowed and 5% never married. Escapades has
a large mailing list which means a wide variety of people attend our events.
Attendance will be in the 20 to 40 range for events as tennis, bridge, golf
outings and sailing regattas. For dances Escapades plans for crowds in the
50 to 120 range depending on the site, the event and the joint sponsorship
with other clubs.
Escapades sponsors about 36 events per year. They are held mostly in Fairfield
and Westchester Counties with periodic trips to New York City. The New York
City events include the grand ballroom of the New York Athletic Club on
Central Park South and the St Bartholomew Club on Park Ave. Clubs in
Fairfield County include the Greenwich Country Club, the Wee Burn
Country Club and the Bellhaven Yacht Club.
A number of Escapades events are held jointly with other singles groups to
afford our members and guests the opportunity to meet new people.
Our membership fee is $45 for the first year and $35 for renewals. The fee supports
the not-for-profit organization. Members also receive priority reservations for
events with limited capacity, as our sailing regattas or restaurant dinners.
Members receive a discount for events. Members also receive a monthly mailing
or e-mail notification of upcoming events . Membership applications are available
at all Escapades events.
